"T-Mobile Netherlands announced plans to shut down its GSM network from 15 November 2020. The operator said the large majority of traffic already goes over its 3G and 4G networks, and few customers will notice the loss of 2G services.
Any customers still relying on 2G will have two years to transition to a new phone. T-Mobile said customers can check that their phone still works on the website willmyphonework.net.
T-Mobile is the first Dutch operator to announce a 2G shutdown. Its main rivals are instead planning to discontinue their 3G networks, from the start of 2020 for Vodafone and by 2022 at KPN. These operators have more M2M traffic on 2G still.
According to recent research by Telecompaper, 88 percent of the Dutch already have a 4G phone and 83 percent have access to 4G networks."
